I like cricket, not playing it, watching it. By most people's standards, especially the forgieners that I hang out with, it is an intensely dull game. But when I tell them about it, I captivate them (for a while anyway). I love the game. I love it's intricate, over complicated rules. I love it's stupid names. I love the fuddy-duddy people who follow it. I love the bizzare off the wall commentary. I love the fact that it goes on for days so I do not miss any of it. I am passionate about it.
Make sure whatever you do, you do it with passion and you put everything into it. I'm not suggesting that if all you do is D&D and sci-fi you are going to start picking up women, you still need to put yourself out there. After all your buddy's basement is not going to be full of super hot chicks. I would suggest maybe taking up an additional hobby on your free nights, but you catch the drift.
Never be afraid of who you are, never be afraid to tell anyone. If a chick asks me about pickup or starts badmouthing the community, I will stick my neck out and stand up for us: "No way, The Game was one of the most inspiring things I ever read it changed my life. I'm proud of who I am today and pickup helped me get here". If people cannot accept you for who you are then that is their problem not yours.
Do what ever you want, but do it with passion and do not be afraid to show it. Actively tell people about it, just know when to stop. Chicks dig passion but no-one likes a bore.
